From the ancient to the modern, in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic you can travel through the centuries by visiting museums that celebrate all aspects of Dominican life past and present. The Museum of Dominican Man, the Museum of Modern Art, the National Museum of History and Geography, and the National Museum of Natural History are all in the Plaza of Culture, a large park where visitors can easily stroll to a museum another.
By day you can also visit the National Aquarium, the Botanical Garden and Los Tres Ojos, an impressive cave 15 meters deep with three large lakes surrounded by lush vegetation and stalagmites.
In Santo Domingo you can enjoy big plays, concerts or other artistic performances at the National Theater or in small theaters in the city. And late at night, tourists can join the Dominicans and dancing and dancing in nightclubs, including the fantastic Guacara Taíno, the great cave converted into a cultural center and disco and Jet Set Disco, specially the Monday nights. The casinos of the city remain open until the early hours of morning.
The city is modern and almost entirely horizontal with a length of 40 square kilometers. It has expanded to become the largest metropolises in the Caribbean and one of the most extensive of America.
Several buildings reflect their cultural development and modernization. These include the Botanical Gardens, the Zoo, the Aquarium, the Palace of Fine Arts, the Library of the Dominican Republic and the Columbus Lighthouse.
It also has a market (Mercado Modelo) as its main craft center and the Plaza of Culture which houses several museums, the National Library, the Gallery of Modern Art and the National Theater.
The city of Santo Domingo in Dominican Republic currently occupies a place of honor in the world and has been declared a World Cultural Heritage by UNESCO for its historical and architectural treasures.
